UFC bantamweight Raoni Barcelos said he is doing "great" in his first public comment since he was hospitalized on Saturday following a frightening scene at UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas.
Barcelos (22-6) was transported out of the Octagon on a stretcher, after he appeared unresponsive following a fifth-round TKO loss to Raul Rosas Jr. in the main event. Barcelos' coach, Davi Ramos, quickly shared a positive update online, saying "everything is fine" in a brief video. Barcelos offered his first statement on the scare on Monday.
"Hey guys, I want to let you all know that I'm doing great and as soon as I can I will send you all a video!" Barcelos wrote in Portuguese in the comments section of a UFC Brasil Instagram post. "Thank you so much for everyone's love and prayers! I promised a great fight and I fulfilled what I promised.
"Thank you God and everyone who fought together with me inside and out of the cage."
According to a statement released by the UFC on Saturday, Barcelos was transported to a Level 1 trauma center, where he underwent a CT scan immediately after the bout.
Barcelos, 39, is an eight-year veteran of the UFC with a record of 11-5 inside the Octagon. He was on a five-fight win streak prior to Saturday's loss.
