PHILADELPHIA -- The Giants pulled a recent trade offer for Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, according to coach John Harbaugh, who added that doesn't mean a deal is completely off the table.
Fox Sports reported on Sunday morning that the Giants offered the Colts a second and a fifth-round pick for Taylor.
Harbaugh was asked about that offer after the Giants' win over the Eagles later Sunday.
"I'm not saying that report's not true. Those conversations are taking place," he said following the 19-11 victory. "If something happens for any player, can't talk about any [specific] player because they're with other teams right now, but we're not ruling anything out."
ESPN's Adam Schefter has reported the Giants and Colts didn't have much contact this past week. The Colts, in sell mode amid a 2-7 season, have maintained a high price for Taylor, sources said.
The Giants (5-2-1) are interested in improving their team. The question is at what cost. They're in the driver's seat in the NFC East, and running back is a position where an upgrade is viable if Taylor is available.
Cam Skattebo (hamstring) missed Sunday's game and Tyrone Tracy Jr. (hamstring) is on injured reserve. Devin Singletary was the team's lead back against the Eagles and had 31 yards on 21 carries.
An NFL source said this past week he could still see the Giants adding an interior defensive lineman, also a position of need, before a running back.
"I don't see anything particularly imminent right now either," Harbaugh said. "So we'll see what happens."
Harbaugh already said earlier in the week he made a personal call to Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk about the availability of defensive lineman Jeffrey Simmons. The Giants were also interested in Commanders defensive lineman Daron Payne before he was lost for the season with a foot injury.
No door is shut. Not on Taylor or anybody else.
"I will say this, things do change," Harbaugh said about the Taylor trade being dead. "Things change from day to day."
Any move has to make sense for the present and future. New York already lost starting quarterback Jaxson Dart and top pass rusher Brian Burns for the season with injuries. It's on a third starting quarterback with J.J. McCarthy, who left and later returned to Sunday's contest with a hip injury.
"I'm not just gonna go for a short-term fix at exorbitant cost. That's not where we're at," Harbaugh said. "And usually when you do that sort of thing, it doesn't work out for you. You end paying a hefty price and don't get the return on it. I never think that you're one step way or one player away, to me it's always just a total momentum kind of thing anyway.
"But if the right opportunity comes and there's a deal that makes sense for us, we'll do it."
