Source: Mercury's Mitchell wins Most Improved

Phoenix's Leilani Mitchell already won the WNBA's Most Improved Player Award once in her career. Now, she has done it again.

According to a league source, Mitchell officially will be announced as the 2019 winner on Wednesday.

Mitchell, 34, averaged 12.8 points, 4.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds, all career highs, for the Mercury. The 5-foot-5 point guard had more opportunity to play this season, as Mercury star guard Diana Taurasi was limited to just six games due to injuries.

Mitchell previously won the award in 2010, when she played for the New York Liberty. She is the only player in WNBA history to win this honor twice, and she is the first Mercury player to claim the prize.
