New Zealander Steve Hansen has been appointed Wales coach until the end of the 2003/2004 season.
The appointment is dependent on further contractual negotiations with the Welsh Rugby Union.
Hansen took over on a caretaker basis from fellow Kiwi Graham Henry following the record Lloyds TSB Six Nations defeat by Ireland in Dublin in February.
Meanwhile Llanelli's outside half Stephen Jones has passed a fitness test for Wales and will play against Scotland at the Millennium Stadium tomorrow. Jones missed the 50-10 defeat by England a fortnight ago.
Hansen said: "We've still got to negotiate a couple of things but it's a nice position to be in.
"I don't think there should be much of a problem as long as everyone is honest and fair with each other.
"To be honest it has not been a weight on my mind before tomorrow's game.
"It was up to the WRU to decide who they wanted. I would have gone along with whoever they had chosen.
"Scotland are not going to lie down tomorrow because I have got the coaching job."
Wales director of rugby Terry Cobner said: "The directorate has just completed an appraisal of the management teams of the Wales, Wales A and Wales Under-21 teams.
"As a result, the directorate proposed to last night's general committee meeting that Steve Hansen be retained as coach to the Wales XV until the end of the 2003-2004 season.
"The directorate has every confidence in Steve as a coach and hopes that by continuing his role at the WRU, the continuity and stability that is needed in the run-up to the Rugby World Cup and beyond will be provided."
Hansen's first task after tomorrow's game will be to lead Wales on the summer tour to South Africa as they prepare for next year's World Cup.
