Connolly to turn out for Orrell

Wigan's Great Britain centre Gary Connolly has signed a new 12-month contract with the 13-man code giants that includes a close-season spell with rugby union neighbours Orrell.

The 30-year-old Connolly, who had a brief stint with Harlequins five years ago, will help strengthen the growing links between the Warriors and Orrell, who were recently bought up by Wigan owner Dave Whelan.

Former team-mates Wes Davies and Phil Jones have already made permanent switches to the 15-man code with promotion-seeking Orrell but Connolly will return to Wigan for pre-season training early next year.

"I'm more than happy with the deal," said Connolly, who missed 10 matches in mid-season with a dislocated shoulder.

"I've not played much this year and they were keen for me to play some rugby. I had 12 weeks off during the season and I'll put that down as my break."

Connolly, who will collect his 23rd Great Britain cap in Friday's Test match against France in Agen, has a further 12-month option in his new Wigan contract.
