Billy Whizz meets Billy Whizz

One of the major perks of being an internationally renowned rugby star is that you may get the chance to meet some of your all time heroes.

Nelson Mandela, the Pope, even David Campese - all larger than life personalities you may get the chance to rub shoulders with. They don't, though, come any more surreal than a fictional comic book character.

Next month, however, Lions tourists Jason Robinson is set to come face to face with that well known Beano comic character who shares his nickname, Billy Whizz.

The unlikely partnership was first forged when the winger, who scored five tries for the Lions against a Queensland President's XV on Tuesday, was making his name on the wing with Wigan.

But since his big money move to union and Sale Sharks Robinson's profile has sky rocketed and on July 4 he will make his debut in the cartoon strip.

Sale Sharks' medial and PR manager, Dave Swanton, said: "The original connection involved a cartoon of Billy Whizz passing a ball to Jason, but since Jason's move to Sale Sharks interest in him has really taken off."

Octagon Marketing who are promoting the Lions tour and promote the Zurich Premiership are keen to use the England sensation to maximise the profile of the sport and a range of promotional merchandise will soon be available.
