Forward pack helps Sharks defeat Jaguares in Super Rugby

Three tries from the Sharks forward pack saw the South African Super Rugby side leave Argentina with a 33-25 victory over Jaguares.

The South African's started at a blistering pace and their pack made their presence felt, as pick and go after pick and go brought them to within metres of the Jaguares line before Phillip Van Der Walt barged his way over.

Curwin Bosch converted and then cancelled out Nicolas Sanchez's 11th minute penalty before Michael Claassens was win-binned for a high tackle 21 minutes in.

Sanchez split the posts but within two minutes Bosch had cancelled it out. Still with a man advantage Jaguares began to find space and fullback Joaquin Tuculet was first to exploit it, racing clear to touch down in the corner as the half hour approached.

Sanchez converted and despite Claassens' return, the Argentine side kept pressing and were rewarded five minutes before the break when a wonderful pop pass to Matias Orlando saw the centre go over for Jaguares' second try.

Just before the break it was the strength of the Sharks pack that got them back as Etienne Oosthuizen charged over to leave the sides level 20-20 at the break.

After both teams saw attacks in the opening moments of the second half come to nothing it was the Sharks forward pack that got them back in front as Thomas du Toit touched down. Bosch added the conversion and a penalty to stretch the Sharks' lead to 10.

There was a brief resurgence from Jaguares when Bautista Ezcurra scored a try with 17 minutes remaining but there was nothing left in the tank and a Bosch penalty at the death secured the win.
