Glasgow slay Dragons to keep PRO12 top-four hopes alive

Glasgow secured an emphatic 47-17 victory over Newport Gwent Dragons to keep their PRO12 top-four hopes alive.

A brace of tries from centre Nick Grigg and two conversions from the boot of Peter Horne were enough to keep the Warriors ahead of their Welsh visitors at the interval.

They managed a solo effort from Rynard Landman and a penalty and conversion from Angus O'Brien. Rory Hughes, Ratu Tagive on his home debut, Lee Jones, Mark Bennett and Horne wrapped up the bonus point for Glasgow.

Tyler Morgan went over for the visitors late on, with Dorian Jones converting.

The Warriors, aiming to get their top-four pursuit back on track after back-to-back defeats, had a chance to take an early lead but Bennett dragged his long-range penalty wide.

It was the Dragons who eventually broke the deadlock on 14 minutes when O'Brien nudged a penalty through the uprights after Tim Swinson had been penalised for not rolling away in the tackle.

The afternoon continued to go the way of the struggling Welsh side when Landman bulldozed his way over from close range after impressive pick-and-go work from the forwards following a five-metre scrum.

That was as good as it got, however, for the visitors as Glasgow piled on 47 unanswered points. Grigg made room for himself in midfield and outpaced the defence for the Warriors' opening try, before adding a second seven minutes later.

Horne converted both to hand Glasgow a 14-10 lead at the interval.

The Warriors continued where they left off after the break, Hughes cutting a perfect line that broke the Dragons defence and using his power the winger wrestled his way over the line.

Horne converted to hand the Warriors an 11-point cushion.

Tagive collected a pin-point cross-field kick from Horne to touch down for his first try followed by Jones, who jinked his way over after a break from Bennett.

Bennett grabbed his own followed by Horne to complete the rout. Dragons did manage a consolation score in injury time through Morgan, with Jones converting.
