Round 6 NRL preview with Brett Kimmorley: line-ups, odds

The Sydney Roosters - who have started the season with five consecutive losses - have been out of sorts in 2016 and at some point the blame needs to be shifted from the players to the coaching staff.

It's going to be another monumental task for them in round six against the Rabbitohs who last week welcomed Sam Burgess back into the side in a win over Manly. While Souths aren't at their best they are winning and will be confident heading into this match.

The Roosters are improving with each game but they're continually shooting each other in the foot with errors and you feel another loss may see Trent Robinson in the firing line - if he's not already.

Did you know? The last time the Roosters lost six straight matches to open a season was 1966 - they failed to win a match the entire year.

There's been lots of talk that their season is already over but as long as the players believe their 2016 campaign is still alive, success will come. We mustn't forget how long, brutal and unpredictable this season is; anything can happen.

On a more positive note, I was really excited last week with a couple of other sides.

The Panthers played some superb attacking football in their win over Parramatta. They move the ball with such precision and are great to watch. But I still feel too many mistakes are holding them back from joining the top few sides in the competition.

Their last four games have been decided by under two points (two wins and two losses) but if they can start to improve their completion rate and cut out silly errors they will be winning even more matches as well as putting themselves right into premiership contention.

The Panthers will host the premiers North Queensland at Pepper Stadium this week and I give them every chance to cause an upset and push up into the top eight.

The Canberra Raiders also caught my eye with an impressive win against the in-form Bulldogs on Monday night. They are a much stronger side with Aidan Sezer and Blake Austin playing in the halves, and they've been defending brilliantly.

Did you know? Monday night's match was just the second time in 14 games the Bulldogs have been held to under 10 points.

They Raiders were on a chartered flight back to Canberra immediately after claiming the two points at Belmore in an attempt to prepare for round six. They can consider themselves a little unlucky to be facing a five-day turnaround against a seething Eels outfit who suffered a golden-point loss last week.

Finally, it's great to see Cronulla's Ben Barba back to his 2012 best. He's had to work very hard and for a while it looked as if we may never see his brilliance again.

The spark he's managed to re-discover is a main reason why the Sharks have been winning matches and are now one of the premiership favourites.

UBET verdict: Brisbane's been bombarded in premiership betting ($4.00 into $3.75) this week and, despite their skinny quote ($1.15), also backed for a stack to win this one. Round 4, 2009 was the last time the Dragons beat the Broncos at Suncorp.

Saturday, April 9

Eels: 1. Michael Gordon, 2. Semi Radradra, 3. Michael Jennings, 4. Brad Takairangi, 5. Clint Gutherson, 6. Corey Norman, 7. Kieran Foran, 8. Junior Paulo, 9. Nathan Peats, 10. Daniel Alvaro, 11. NZ Warriors ($1.38) v Manly Sea Eagles ($3.10), at Mt Smart Stadium

Warriors: 1. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, 2. Tuimoala Lolohea, 3. Blake Ayshford, 4. Solomone Kata, 5. Jonathan Wright, 6. Shaun Johnson, 7. Jeff Robson, 8. Jacob Lillyman, 9. Issac Luke, 10. Ben Matulino, 11. Simon Mannering, 12. Ryan Hoffman, 13. Sam Lisone. Interchange: 14. Jazz Tevaga, 15. Albert Vete, 16. Charlie Gubb, 17. Konrad Hurrell, 18. Thomas Leuluai

Sea Eagles: 1. Brett Stewart, 2. Jorge Taufua, 3. Jamie Lyon, 4. Steve Matai, 5. Tom Trbojevic, 6. Dylan Walker, 7. Apisai Koroisau, 8. Josh Starling, 9. Matt Parcell, 10. Nate Myles, 11. Tom Symonds, 12. Martin Taupau, 13. Jake Trbojevic Interchange: 14. Lewis Brown, 15. Brenton Lawrence, 16. Darcy Lussick, 17. Siosaia Vave, 18. Blake Leary,19. Luke Burgess

UBET verdict: Mount Smart has a reputation as a fortress, but it's been a field of dreams for the Sea Eagles. Manly's won four of their past five at the venue and savvy punters aren't exactly lining up to take the short odds ($1.38) about the hosts.

Penrith Panthers ($2.25) v North Queensland Cowboys ($1.65), at Pepper Stadium

Panthers: 1. Matt Moylan, 2. Josh Mansour, 3. Waqa Blake, 4. Peta Hiku, 5. Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, 6. Te Maire Martin, 7. Jamie Soward, 8. Sam McKendry, 9. Peter Wallace, 10. Reagan Campbell-Gillard, 11. Bryce Cartwright, 12. Isaah Yeo, 13. Trent Merrin Interchange: 14. Tyrone Peachey, 15. Leilani Latu, 16. Suaia Matagi, 17. James Fisher-Harris, 18. Elijah Taylor, 19. Jeremy Latimore

Cowboys: 1. Lachlan Coote, 2. Kyle Feldt, 3. Justin O'Neill, 4. Javid Bowen, 5. Antonio Winterstein, 6. Michael Morgan, 7. Johnathan Thurston, 8. Matthew Scott , 9. Jake Granville, 10. James Tamou, 11. Gavin Cooper, 12. Ethan Lowe, 13. Jason Taumalolo Interchange: 14. Rory Kostjasyn, 15. John Asiata, 16. Scott Bolton, 17. Ben Hannant

UBET verdict: Both sides like to chance their hand, so points probably won't be at a premium. Three of the past four hit outs between these two have been decided by 13+ and margin punters will no doubt be leaning this way when the bet type opens.

Sunday, April 10

Cronulla Sharks ($1.28) v Gold Coast Titans ($3.75), at Shark Park

Sharks: 1. Ben Barba, 2. Sosaia Feki, 3. Jack Bird, 4. Ricky Leutele, 5. Valentine Holmes, 6. James Maloney, 7. Chad Townsend, 8. Andrew Fifita, 9. Michael Ennis, 10. Sam Tagataese, 11. Luke Lewis, 12. Wade Graham, 13. Paul Gallen Interchange: 14. Jayson Bukuya, 15. Chris Heighington, 16. Matt Prior, 17. Joseph Paulo, 18. Gerard Beale

Titans: 1. David Mead, 2. Anthony Don, 3. Josh Hoffman, 4. John Olive, 5. Nene Macdonald, 6. Cameron Cullen, 7. Ashley Taylor, 8. David Shillington, 9. Nathan Friend, 10. Ryan James, 11. Zeb Taia, 12. Chris McQueen, 13. Greg Bird Interchange: 14. Luke Douglas, 15. Leivaha Pulu, 16. Agnatius Paasi, 17. Daniel Mortimer, 18. Eddy Pettybourne, 19. Will Zillman

UBET verdict: Cronulla's won five of their past seven against the Gold Coast, including three of their last four at Shark Park, hence the short price about ($1.28) them. Still, much of the early support is for the Titans at the juicy price ($3.70).

Newcastle Knights ($2.10) v Wests Tigers ($1.75), at Hunter Stadium

Knights: 1. Dane Gagai, 2. Nathan Ross, 3. Sione Mata'utia, 4. Pat Mata'utia, 5. Akuila Uate, 6. Jarrod Mullen, 7. Trent Hodkinson, 8. Sam Mataora, 9. Danny Levi, 10. Korbin Sims, 11. Tariq Sims, 12. Robbie Rochow, 13. Jeremy Smith Interchange: 14. Tyler Randell, 15. Jack Stockwell, 16. Jacob Saifiti, 17. Pauli Pauli, 18. Daniel Saifiti, 19. Mickey Paea

Tigers: 1. James Tedesco, 2. David Nofoaluma, 3. Tim Simona, 4. Kevin Naiqama, 5. Jordan Rankin, 6. Mitchell Moses, 7. Luke Brooks, 8. Aaron Woods, 9. Robbie Farah, 10. Tim Grant, 11. Dene Halatau, 12. Chris Lawrence, 13. Sauaso Sue Interchange: 14. Curtis Sironen, 15. Ava Seumanufagai, 16. Joshua Aloiai, 17. Kyle Lovett

UBET verdict: If the Knights lose this one, it'll be their worst start to a season since 2005 when they began with 13 consecutive defeats. Fortunately for Novocastrians, the money trail suggests an upset is on the cards.

Monday, April 11

Melbourne Storm ($1.68) v Canterbury Bulldogs ($2.20), at AAMI Park

Storm: 1. Cameron Munster, Young Tonumaipea, Will Chambers, Tohu Harris, Marika Koroibete, Blake Green, Cooper Cronk, Jesse Bromwich, Cameron Smith, Jordan McLean, Kevin Proctor, Kenny Bromwich, Dale Finucane Interchange: Christian Welch, Tim Glasby, Felise Kaufusi, Ben Hampton, Nelson Asofa-Solomona, Richie Kennar

Bulldogs: 1. Will Hopoate, Curtis Rona, Josh Morris, Kerrod Holland, Sam Perrett, Josh Reynolds, Moses Mbye, Aiden Tolman, Michael Lichaa, James Graham, Josh Jackson, Tony Williams, Greg Eastwood Interchange: Sam Kasiano, Tim Browne, David Klemmer, Adam Elliott, Lloyd Perrett

UBET verdict: Bogey team alert! Canterbury's won five in a row against Melbourne and the Bulldogs have restricted the normally potent Storm to just 12 points in total in past their past three games. Doubt the $2.20 on the Dogs will last long.
