FA Cup first round: Shock results, non-league giant-killings as Guiseley progress

Non-league Kidderminster Harriers and seventh-tier Guiseley were among the biggest giant-killers in the FA Cup first round on Saturday as a host of Football League clubs suffered surprise exits.

National League side Kidderminster produced one of the standout results of the day, cruising to a 3-0 victory over League One Doncaster Rovers, while Guiseley, from the seventh tier, are also through to the second round.

Here, ESPN rounds up the biggest shocks.

Kidderminster (National League) 3-0 Doncaster (League One)

Non-league Kidderminster breezed into the second round of the FA Cup with a convincing 3-0 victory over League One Doncaster.

The National League outfit opened the scoring after 22 minutes when Maz Kouhyar pulled the ball back to Lewis Walker and he fired home at the second attempt after his initial shot had hit the upright.

The Harriers striker continued to cause problems, putting an effort over the crossbar and another just wide, but in the 36th minute he turned provider, charging upfield before teeing up Kouhyar and the on-loan Notts County midfielder slotted home.

Kouhyar was again involved for the third goal in the second half, having a shot that Rovers keeper Josh Clarke could only parry and David Davis turned in the rebound.

Guiseley (Northern Premier League) 1-0 Sutton (National League)

Jordan Thewlis' stoppage-time penalty gave seventh-tier Guiseley a 1-0 win over Sutton in their FA Cup first round tie at Nethermoor Park.

The Lions had made a bright start with Elliot Owen and Oliver Brown both going close before midfielder Jack Emmett saw his header cleared off the line just before the break.

There was a delay to the start of the second half because of a medical incident in the crowd, with the match restarting around 15 minutes late.

Sutton improved in the second half, with defender Ben Brookes firing across the face of goal and Temi Babalola heading over from a corner.

Guiseley, though, secured a memorable cup win when Thewlis slotted in from the spot in the fourth minute of added time.

Carlisle (National League) 1-0 Salford (League Two)

David Ajiboye's deflection fired non-league Carlisle United into the second-round of the FA Cup at the expense of League Two leaders Salford City.

The ambitious Ammies had won eight league games in a row heading into the contest but they failed to break down the National League Cumbrians.

Morgan Feeney squandered a chance for the hosts when he nodded over in the first half before Regan Linney had an effort ruled out for offside. Carlisle stopper Archie Mair then kept out Ryan Graydon's penalty in the 36th minute.

The hosts took a fortunate lead when Stephen Wearne's strike was deflected in off Ajiboye on the stroke of halftime -- which the visitors couldn't recover from.

Dover (National League South) 2-0 Wealdstone (National League)

Jack Bates scored twice in the first half as Dover progressed through to the second round of the FA Cup with a 2-0 win over Wealdstone.

The National League South team took a lead over the side from the league above when Bates latched onto a ball and lashed in from outside the box (14).

The Whites doubled their lead three minutes before the break in carbon-copy fashion after Bates decided to have another crack from outside the box and rifled into the back of the net.

Dover were not content with two and they pushed for more; Sak Hassan and Ruben Soares-Junior saw chances come and go, but nevertheless booked their spot in the next round.

Gillingham (League Two) 0-1 Barrow (National League)

Innes Cameron's stoppage-time goal sent National League side Barrow into the second round of the FA Cup as they snatched a 1-0 victory at Gillingham.

The striker's poacher's effort rewarded an excellent finish to the tie from the Bluebirds, who are unbeaten in 10 games, much to the fury of the home supporters.

Huddersfield (League One) 1-2 Exeter (League Two)

League Two Exeter pulled off an upset as they booked their place in the second round of the FA Cup with a 2-1 win away to League One leaders Huddersfield.

Exeter took the lead after 12 minutes, thanks to a perfectly-delivered cross from the left from Luca Woodhouse, with centre-back Jack Taylor stealing in at the far post to finish it off.

Huddersfield looked a different outfit in the second half, and they found an equaliser within eight minutes of the restart as Ibane Bowat headed home Cameron Humphreys' corner at the back post.

But Charlie Cummins grabbed the winner nine minutes from time at the end of a well-worked move up the right culminating in Reece Cole's cutback and a good finish.
