Daniel Sturridge's £12 million transfer from Chelsea to Liverpool may be in jeopardy as the club aims to reduce fees paid to agents. The Guardian newspaper claims the deal is now in serious doubt, with Fenway Sports Group eager to rein in exorbitant spending. Liverpool spent £10,537,982 on agents over the past 12 months, topping the list of big-spending Premier League clubs. It is reported that Paris Saint-Germain's Kevin Gameiro is being lined up as an alternative signing should the Sturridge move fall though. The news comes on a day when Reds winger Raheem Sterling is expected to put pen to paper on a new five-year contract.
Former Chelsea front-man Salomon Kalou is linked with a return to the Premier League in Friday's press. After moving to Ligue 1 outfit Lille amid overtures from QPR, West Ham and Everton last summer, Kalou is now believed to be surplus to requirements in France, according to both reports in France and the Daily Mail. The 27-year-old has hit the back of the net just three times this season, and Lille are understood to be interested in moving Kalou on in January.
An Angel appears set to descend on Wigan this Christmas. Well, an Angelo perhaps. Roberto Martinez will lose Arouna Kone to the African Nations Cup in the coming weeks, and it is claimed by the Daily Mirror that Manchester United newcomer Angelo Henriquez will fill the void, with a loan deal said to have been agreed between the two clubs. Sir Alex Ferguson has expressed his admiration of the young forward on numerous occasions, but has not yet broken into the Red Devils' first XI.
