Esteban Ocon has chosen the number 31 to accompany him on his Formula One career, which will start with Manor at the Belgian Grand Prix.

Ocon has been brought in to replace Rio Haryanto, who has been dropped from his race seat due to a lack of funding. Mercedes junior Ocon had effectively been on loan at Renault before that, completing four free practice sessions for the Enstone team this season.

Under a rule introduced at the start of 2014, drivers now choose a permanent career number which they will keep on the car every season. The only exception to this is the defending champion having the option to run the number one on his car -- something Lewis Hamilton, who runs the number 44, has opted against for his two most recent title defences.

Manor confirmed Ocon's choice on Monday:

Ocon's new teammate, Pascal Wehrlein, carries the number 94. Haryanto runs the number 88, which he will retain should he step in for either Manor driver in the remaining races of 2016 in his new capacity as reserve driver.
