BUDAPEST, Hungary -- Nico Rosberg has been called to the stewards to explain an alleged "failure to slow for yellow flags" during the lap that secured him pole position at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Fernando Alonso spun his McLaren on the exit kerb of Turn 9 during Q3, bringing out double waved yellows at that section of the track and forcing a number of drivers, including Lewis Hamilton, to back off on quick laps. Rosberg arrived at the scene later than Hamilton, by which time Alonso's car has moved, but the double-waved yellows were still present at the marshal post ahead of Turn 8 and Turn 9.
Speaking to the media, Rosberg claimed he lifted "significantly" as he approached the yellow flags, but Rosberg and a Mercedes team representative have been summoned to the stewards at 19:45 (local time) to explain the situation.
The stewards cited an "alleged breach of Appendix H, Article 2.4.5.1 b) of the FIA International Sporting Code, failure to slow for yellow flags at 15:54."
The section of the International Sporting Code explains what is expected of a driver when approaching double waved yellows: "Reduce your speed significantly, do not overtake, and be prepared to change direction or stop.
"There is a hazard wholly or partly blocking the track and/or marshals working on or beside the track."
The team was notified of the stewards' decision to investigate the incident at 19:16, nearly four hours after the end of the session.
