Max Verstappen says he has not yet extracted the full potential from his new Red Bull, despite qualifying fourth on his debut with the team at the Spanish Grand Prix.

Verstappen switched from Toro Rosso to Red Bull in the week following the Russian Grand Prix and in qualifying in Spain went up against his new teammate Daniel Ricciardo for the first time. Despite setting quicker times in Q1 and Q2, he was 0.407s down on Ricciardo when it mattered in Q3.

However, the 18-year-old says he still has plenty of lap time to unlock in the Red Bull RB12.

"No, it is clearly not the limit; I still don't know where the limit is," he said. "You should see it as the first winter test day because it is a completely different car, so you always make a lot of progress."

Asked if he needed a perfect lap to beat Ricciardo, Verstappen said: "At the moment it is not about a perfect lap. I was just happy with the progress I was making every time. I was feeling much better in the car every lap. For more that is the most t positive thing."
