In a good day for batters on September 27, there were ODI centuries for Justin Greaves, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli in Thiruvananthapuram, for Temba Bavuma and David Miller in Johannesburg, and Tom Banton at The Oval.
Six individual centuries is the most on a single day in ODIs. There have been six previous cases of five, most recently on October 10 in 2023, during the last 50-over World Cup - hundreds by Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Rizwan for Pakistan, and Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama for Sri Lanka in a high-scoring match in Hyderabad, and Dawid Malan for England against Bangladesh in Dharamsala. It also happened on September 3 in 2013, January 23 in 2015, October 5 in 2016, March 6 in 2018, and July 6 in 2019 (during the World Cup in England).
Tom Abell scored a first-class triple-century for Somerset on September 27. Is this the latest in an English season that anyone has reached 300? asked Sandy Whitlock from England
Somerset's Tom Abell took his overnight 284 in the County Championship match against Surrey in Taunton to 307 on the morning of September 27, the last day of the season. You're right that it is the latest anyone has completed a triple-century in an English first-class season: the previous-latest was by Hampshire's John Crawley in 2005, when he reached 311 not out against Nottinghamshire in Southampton on September 22. Crawley obviously enjoyed playing against Nottinghamshire: the previous summer he'd scored 301 not out against them at Trent Bridge (but that was in July).
Darren Lehmann reached 339 for Yorkshire against Durham at Headingley on September 21 in 2006, while Glamorgan's David Lloyd reached 313 not out against Derbyshire in Cardiff on September 21 in 2022.
None of Pakistan's top five batters reached double figures in the first innings of the third Test. Is this a frequent occurrence? asked Zafar Ahmed from Pakistan
Pakistan slipped to 48 for 5 on the first day of the third Test at Edgbaston earlier this month, losing all the top five in the batting order in single figures (Azan Awais did make 9). This is not particularly unusual: Edgbaston provided the 51st instance in Test matches. The 50th came less than three weeks before, as Bangladesh collapsed against Australia in Mackay.
Pakistan's No. 6, Saud Shakeel, did make it to double figures, as did two team-mates down the order. There have been two Test innings in which none of the 11 batters made it as far as ten: by South Africa (30 all out) against England at Edgbaston in 1924 (there were 11 extras though), and India (36) against Australia in Adelaide in 2020.

The man in question here is the lively fast bowler Ethan Bamber, who was easily Warwickshire's leading wicket-taker in their successful push for the County Championship in 2026, with 60 at less than 20 apiece. That included figures of 9 for 94 as the title was clinched in the final game, against Leicestershire at Edgbaston.
Ethan's father, David Bamber, has a long list of credits as an actor, including the role of Adolf Hitler in the 2008 film Valkyrie. On the sporting side, he played the England football manager Alf Ramsey in the 2017 TV mini-series Bobby and Tina, about the 1966 World Cup-winning captain Bobby Moore.
Five Australians were run out in the 1975 World Cup final. Is this still the record for an ODI? Or any international?! asked Dennis Maitland from England
You're right that five Australians were run out as they struggled to overhaul West Indies' total of 291 in the first World Cup final, at Lord's in 1975. That is still the record, although it has been equalled nine times since, most recently by South Africa against New Zealand in Kimberley in 2013.
Seven men were run out in Rwanda's total of 159 in a T20I against Malawi in Kigali in 2022: no other innings in men's T20Is has had more than four run-outs.
The Test record is four run-outs in a single innings, by India against Pakistan in Peshawar in 1955, and Australia in a tense chase against West Indies in Adelaide in 1969.
In women's internationals there have been four cases of six run-outs in an innings in T20Is, and also four in ODIs. The women's Test record is four, by Australia against England in Adelaide in 1949.
