Prep Mania profile: Claire Chaussee

Claire Chaussee, Sun Prairie High School

Year: Senior.

Sports: Volleyball.

Sports highlights: Claire is a four-time letterwinner and four-year starter for the Cardinals as outside hitter. She is a four-time recipient of Big Eight Conference first-team honors and the league’s Player of the Year as a junior and senior. She earned Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association All-State first-team honors as a junior, third-team recognition as a sophomore and honorable mention honors as a freshman. She surpassed 1,000 kills as a junior and became the school’s career leader in kills as a senior. Sun Prairie won four straight regional titles during her career and advanced to the WIAA Division 1 state tournament her junior year.

Pre-game ritual or superstition: I have to bounce the ball three times and spin it on my hand before I serve.

Cumulative GPA: 3.0.

Favorite subject/class: Forensic Science.

Favorite teacher: Mr. Buhr.

Quick quote: “Competing in sports has taught me to put your best effort into it otherwise you are getting nothing out of it.”

Three words to describe me are: Goofy, competitive, stubborn.

I got my start in sports: When my sister started to play volleyball and I was nine years old.

I wish I could play: Soccer and basketball.

My most memorable moments in sports: When the Sun Prairie volleyball 2016 team went to state and the bus rides and nights we stayed at hotels.

I like about high school sports: They are competitive yet still super fun and exciting.

I enjoy playing volleyball because: It is an area where I can just focus on that one thing. I don't have to worry about anything else or think about anything else.

Advice: I would tell a freshman to not regret anything and to just have fun and work hard because it could take them down an amazing path.

My role model is: My sister Emily because she works hard for what she wants to do and where she wants to go in life. She has been the best sister in the world and has taught me so many things in life like volleyball and how to be a good teammate on and off the court. I have no idea what I'd do without her.

Most inspirational teammate: Kayla Foster because she always has a positive attitude and if I'm having a bad day she will pull me out of it.

My family also includes: My mom, Vicki, dad, Howie, brothers, Adam and Matthew, and two yellow labs named Mac and Cooper.

Nickname: Claire Bear.

Favorite opponent: Luxemburg-Casco.

Favorite food: Sushi or apples.

Favorite fast food place and/or restaurant: Culver´s.

Favorite sport on TV: Football.

Favorite place to visit: Lake Wisconsin.

I want to visit: Greece.

If I could change anything: I would change my height to 6-foot-1.

I wish we could play: (DSHA) Divine Savior Holy Angels.

I wish I could meet: Matt Anderson.

Dream date: Go out to a nice dinner somewhere on the beach and then watch an outdoor movie so that we can look at the stars … and eat popcorn and candy.

Dream gift: A really, long letter to begin with that is followed by a 4 door, dark grey jeep Rubicon, with big black rims and wheels, and I want it to have ‘Feed the Bear’ written on it

Preferred brand of shoe: Adidas.

My perfect day: Sleep in till 8 or 9 a.m., then go out for breakfast, hang out on the lake/boat with my friends and play volleyball, then go to dinner at a restaurant on the lake and go to bed.

I like to read: Romance books like ‘Beautiful Disaster’.

This and that: Member of Athletes Committed, History club, and Kahoot club … Play club volleyball at Capital Volleyball Academy … was a server at church from when you could start to my freshman year in high school.

Hobbies: Take pictures, water ski/wake board, draw, and play beach volleyball.

Post-high school plans: Attend the University of Louisville and graduate from there to go onto playing volleyball overseas hopefully. After that I would like to start my own volleyball club in either Chicago or California
