Leander Paes and Marcin Matkowski were defeated by John Peers and Henri Kontinen in the second round of the men's doubles event at Wimbledon.
The 10th seeded Finnish-Australian pair beat the Indo-Polish duo 6-3 6-2 in 62 minutes.
Paes and Matkowski had three break chances in the opening set but converted none. They further lost their serve thrice in the match.
With this loss, a pre-quarterfinal clash of Paes and Rohan Bopanna, who will team up for the Davis Cup and Rio Olympics, has now been prevented.
On Saturday, Bopanna and his Romanian partner Florin Mergea had earlier advanced to the third round of the men's doubles after beating Hans Podlipnik Castillo and Andrej Martin. They will next take on Peers and Kontinen in the third round.
Paes will eye on defending his mixed doubles title with Martina Hingis. The 16th-seeded duo got a bye in the first round, along with Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna. Sania has paired with Ivan Dodig while Bopanna is playing with Anastasia Rodionova.
Mirza and Hingis progress
Top seeds Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis powered through to beat Japan's Eri Hozumi and Miyu Kato 6-3, 6-2 in the second round of the women's doubles event.
They will now meet Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko and USA's Christina Mchale in the third round.
The Indo-Swiss pair hardly broke a sweat to beat the Japanese duo in 52 minutes. The defending champions were aggressive from the start and were rarely troubled by the Japanese pair.
Their next opponents Jelena and McHale were in great form in their second round game as they upset 13th seeds Vania King and Alla Kudryavtseva in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.
