Ferrari team principal Maurizio Arrivabene says Ferrari needs to focus on every single detail of its car in order to challenge Mercedes next season.

Ferrari made a big step between 2014 and 2015 after addressing problems with its power unit over the winter. Ahead of the 2016 season, the team needs to make a similar gain in performance to draw level with Mercedes and Arrivabene said that must come from every aspect of the team.

"We need to work hard on all of the components on the car, we need to take another step forward with the engine, we need to work on the chassis and also the aero," he said. "For us the engine is very important and this year we've had a big improvement.

"But the chassis and aero guys were not sleeping so if you want to have the perfect situation, to know the single detail because the devil is in the detail, and to work 360 degrees. But most importantly making sure all of the guys are working together and are helping each other."

Sebastian Vettel believes the team is on the right path in order to make progress next year.

"Well, we want to be competitive next year against Mercedes, so I won't go into details and tell our secrets. The fact is that we have to improve in a lot of areas, aero, engine etc. but I think the results of this season have shown that we are on the right path, so now we just have to focus on ourselves."
