Pirelli allowed up to six tests in 2016

Pirelli will get a maximum of 12 days devoted solely to tyre testing in 2016 following amendments to next season's sporting regulations.

Pirelli has been pushing for an increase in testing after securing an extension as F1's sole tyre supplier until 2019. It is particularly mindful of the planned 2017 regulation changes which are looking to increase the speed of cars by up to five seconds a lap, partly through the introduction of wider tyres.

The Italian manufacturer was granted a 12-hour tyre test in Abu Dhabi after the final race of the season last month to prepare for 2016 and will also test in wet conditions at Paul Ricard for two days in January. It will be granted a maximum of 12 days -- or six two-day tests -- in 2016 to help develop tyres for future seasons.

The 2016 Sporting Regulations state: "In consultation with the teams and the appointed tyre supplier, the FIA reserves the right to organise up to six two day tests for the sole purpose of providing the supplier with the chance to test improvements to the design of their tyres."

This change comes after the introduction of new tyre regulations set to be introduced next season in a hope of mixing up race strategies and improving the show. Drivers have been afforded a degree of choice over which compound they have available during a race weekend, with Pirelli also increasing its range with the new ultra-soft tyre.
