Lewis Hamilton sure set-up changes will close gap to Nico Rosberg

Lewis Hamilton is expecting a much closer battle with team-mate Nico Rosberg at the Brazilian Grand Prix than the Friday practice times suggest.

Hamilton was 0.458s off Rosberg in second practice as the two Mercedes finished comfortably clear of their rivals. However, Hamilton believes his set-up can be significantly improved on ahead of qualifying, which will allow him to close the gap.

"I think it's going to be close, that's for sure," he said. "Nico's driving really well so it's going to be close.

"I was just focusing on the programme and trying to get the most out of the car. The set-up changes take a long time and I was stuck with the choice that I had made from FP1, which probably wasn't the right one, but we'll make changes for FP3 and it should be good.

"I didn't change anything in the car for the second free practice so in terms of the evolution in the track I didn't follow that. Maybe that's a disadvantage but I will make some changes tonight, for sure."

Lap times were slower than last year's second practice session, but Hamilton puts that down to minor changes to Turns 2 and 8.

"I'm pretty certain it's just the kerbs. Turn 2 is a big, big kerb, it used to be flat through there but now you have a lift. Turn 8 has a big kerb now, we used to just run over the whole of it and now you can't. Those two corners on their own make a big difference."
