Lewis Hamilton was not allowed to watch the final of the Wimbledon tennis championships from the Royal Box after "an unfortunate misunderstanding regarding dress code".
On Sunday morning Hamilton posted a picture to Instagram of his Centre Court invitation, revealing his excitement ahead of the men's final, which saw Novak Djokovic defeat Roger Federer for the second year in a row.
However, Hamilton was notably absent from the broadcast and it later emerged he had not been allowed entry into the famous Centre Court box, which requires a jacket, tie and shoes. The reigning world champion had also posted a photo of him waiting at the plush tennis venue, wearing a bright floral shirt and a hat but no jacket or tie.
A Hamilton spokesperson said: "Due to an unfortunate misunderstanding regarding dress code, Lewis is very disappointed to have missed the men's final." It occurred just seven days after Hamilton claimed a home victory at the British Grand Prix.
