Top 10 sports comedies to get you through self-isolation

You commented, we listened.

With so many fantastic sports comedy movies left out of our original 'Top 15 Sports movies list to get you through sports-less times' we've created a follow up list, Top 10 sports comedy movies.

Similar to our original list, there's just one rule, these movies must be available on streaming services in Australia.

So, did we get it right?

10. Semi-Pro (2008)

It may not be Will Ferrell's best outing, but Semi-Pro is still full of laughs and ludicrous gags. It's silly, foul-mouthed and plenty of fun.

9. Blades of Glory (2007)

Another Will Ferrell classic (don't worry, it won't be his last appearance), Blades of Glory perfectly spoofs the usual inspirational sports dramas and is plenty of fun. This movie doesn't try to be anything more than a silly, feel-good flick.

8. Goon (2012)

Goon is an underdog story that doesn't take itself too seriously, full of comedy mixed with a fair bit of heart. This slap-stick comedy will have your belly aching from laughter, while the charm and grit will keep you enthralled.

7. The Sandlot (1993)

Full of nostalgia and genuinely sweet and charming, this coming of age story will have you reminiscing about better days as you chuckle your way through these kids' ridiculous shenanigans. While it's not gut-busting comedy, it's still plenty of fun.

6. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006)

Is there a better comedy duo than Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly? Talladega Nights has wit, but plenty of silliness and crude humour to entertain you for a solid 110 minutes. It's no Anchorman, but it's pretty darn close.

5. Cool Runnings (1993)

Based on a true story, Cool Runnings has fun with the oddball story that saw four Jamaicans create a bobsled team and enter the Winter Olympics, all without ever previously touching snow. Fun for young and old, this film rises above the usual sports-movie themes with charm and light humour.

4. Caddyshack (1980)

No list is complete without one of the ultimate classic sports comedy films. It's low brow, unashamedly crude and juvenile and so much fun. An Animal House classic, Chevy Chase and Bill Murray create slapstick comedy gold and are a perfect cure for isolation blues.

3. Major League (1989)

Back before Charlie Sheen was "winning" and full of tiger blood, he was Ricky 'Wild Thing' Vaughn, an ace pitcher in this hilarious baseball classic. While the story is formulaic, it doesn't matter because the gags are hilarious and the casting takes the movie the whole nine innings.

2. Dodgeball: A True underdog story (2004)

In this truly memorable comedy, Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller create the dream-team in the over-the-top comedy that perfectly skewers the usual sports movie tropes. It's stupid, crude and everything you need right now to get you through these uncertain times. Now, remember the five D's of dodgeball: Dodge, dip, duck, dive and dodge!

1. Happy Gilmore (1996)

Was there really any competition? With laughs from beginning to the end, Happy Gilmore is easily the best sports comedy movie. From the hilarious hockey scenes, the outrageous punch up with Bob Baker and ridiculous final putt, this movie is ludicrous, but that's what makes it so funny. It's preposterous, unbelievable and wacky, and oh so memorable. Now, get back to practicing your Happy Gilmore swing and as Happy would say during these times of isolation "Are you too good for your home?!"
