Every New England kid dreams of playing baseball at Fenway Park. But hockey?
A group of Bruins legends officially christened the hockey rink at Fenway last Friday with a leisurely skate. But a pair of Connecticut prep schools got the chance to break in the ice with a game Monday morning.
Taft defeated Avon Old Farms, 9-5, on the rink where the Boston Bruins will play the Philadelphia Flyers on New Year's Day.
Two parents, one from each team, paid the $30,000 cost to play the game at Fenway, according to the Hartford Courant. Both wished to remain anonymous.
"We had a lot of fun," Avon Old Farms coach John Gardner told the Courant. "This is something they're going to be able to treasure for awhile. Both teams were in the spirit of the game and just having fun playing hockey."
