Kennedy's double sends Arkansas to super regionals with run-rule win over South Florida
Dakota Kennedy hit a walk-off, two-run double in the sixth inning to secure a 10-2 run-rule victory for Arkansas over South Florida at Bogle Park in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Sunday. The win in the final of the NCAA softball tournament's Fayetteville Regional sent Arkansas to its fifth super regional in program history.
Kennedy finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs for the Razorbacks. Brinli Bain was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double and a walk. Karlie Davison also had a multihit game, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI, and Ella McDowell added a double and an RBI.
Saylor Timmerman was dominant in relief for Arkansas, pitching three perfect innings with four strikeouts. Starter Payton Burnham went three innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits.
South Florida got on the board first in the top of the second inning when Jamia Nelson grounded into a double play that allowed Alex Wilkes to score. The Bulls' only other run came on a solo home run by Alexa Galligani in the top of the fourth. Karhys Pierce and DaNia Brooks also added singles for South Florida.
Arkansas responded to South Florida's early lead with a two-out rally in the bottom of the second. Atalyia Rijo tied the game with an RBI double before Kennedy Miller's three-run blast gave the Razorbacks a 4-1 lead they would not relinquish. Arkansas answered Galligani's homer with another four-run inning, highlighted by RBI doubles from McDowell and Davison, to extend the lead to 8-2. Kennedy's double in the sixth sealed the victory.
