Jordy Frahm's 16 strikeouts power Nebraska to 2-0 tourney win over Grand Canyon

Nebraska pitcher Jordy Frahm delivered a masterful performance, leading the Cornhuskers to a 2-0 victory over the Grand Canyon Lopes in a Lincoln Regional NCAA softball tournament game Saturday at Bowlin Stadium.

Frahm was nearly perfect, throwing a complete-game one-hitter while striking out 16 batters and issuing no walks. She was in control from the start, allowing just a single baserunner to reach via a hit. The Cornhuskers (48-6) provided all the offense Frahm would need in the top of the fifth inning. After a scoreless tie through four, Hannah Coor broke the game open with a triple to right field that scored Frahm. Coor then came home on a throwing error on the next play, extending the Nebraska lead to 2-0. Coor finished the day 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Bella Bacon also contributed a single and a walk.

The Lopes' (53-9) offense was stymied all afternoon, unable to generate any momentum against Frahm. Grand Canyon's only hit of the game came from Ellie Pond, who singled to center field in the bottom of the third inning. The team's only other baserunner reached on an error in the second. Starting pitcher Taryn Batterton was charged with the loss, pitching five innings and allowing two runs, one of which was earned, on two hits and four walks while striking out one.
