Furniss, Bissetta hit back-to-back homers in 8th, send Ole Miss to MCWS


Will Furniss and Tristan Bissetta hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a tie and send Ole Miss to a 5-3 victory over Auburn at Plainsman Park on Saturday, clinching a spot in the Men's College World Series.

The Rebels swept the best-of-three super regional series, punching their ticket to Omaha for the first time since winning the national title in 2022.

Furniss delivered the go-ahead hit in the eighth, launching a two-run homer to right field that gave Ole Miss a 4-2 lead. He finished 1-for-4 with two RBIs. On the very next at-bat, Bissetta followed with a solo shot to right, providing an insurance run. Bissetta went 1-for-3 with a walk. The rally was set up by Judd Utermark, who tied the game at 2 in the sixth inning with a two-run double to right-center. Utermark was 1-for-2 with two walks and two RBIs.

Ole Miss starter Taylor Rabe was solid on the mound, pitching seven innings and allowing two runs on six hits. He struck out eight and walked one. JP Robertson pitched a scoreless inning of relief, and Walker Hooks allowed one run in the ninth to close out the game.

Auburn took an early lead in the top of the fourth inning. Bub Terrell drove in a run with an RBI single to right field, and a second run scored on the play to give the Tigers a 2-0 advantage. Terrell led the Tigers offensively, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Ethin Bingaman also contributed with a pair of hits, finishing 2-for-4 with a run.

Tigers starter Alex Petrovic was effective for much of the game, holding the Rebels scoreless through five innings. He finished with a line of 5⅓ innings pitched, allowing two runs on three hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Reliever Jackson Sanders surrendered three runs on two hits, both home runs, in two innings of work.
