No. 20 Texas A&M women top Louisiana 83-62
COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Chennedy Carter scored 18 points, Arriel Howard had 17 points and 14 rebounds and No. 20 Texas A&M overcame a sluggish opening quarter to beat Louisiana 83-62 on Sunday to advance to the semifinals of the preseason WNIT.
Texas A&M hosts No. 11 Oregon in a semifinal game on Thursday.
Louisiana led 19-12 after the first before Texas A&M (2-0) went on a 12-4 run to take a 24-23 lead with a pair of free throws by Danni Williams. Howard's 3-pointer with 28 seconds left before halftime put the Aggies up 33-30 and they led the rest of the way.
Kayla Wells converted a 3-point play to extend Texas A&M's lead to 47-37 and back-to-back 3s by Williams and Lulu McKinney started a 21-6 Aggies run to end the third.
Williams scored 15 points for the Aggies and Khaalia Hillsman added 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Skyler Goodwin led Louisiana (1-1) with 13 points, Kendra Howard had 12 and Nekia Jones 10.
