Samuelson drains 9 3s for new record, NDSU gets 87-53 win
FARGO, N.D. -- Jared Samuelson set a North Dakota State record for number of treys made in a game, draining 9 of 13 to total a career-best 32 points and lead North Dakota State to an 87-53 thumping of NAIA member Mayville State on Tuesday night.
Samuelson's previous career high was 14 points. A.J. Jacobson added 12 points, Cameron Hunter had 11 with four assists and three steals and Spencer Eliason added 10 points for the Bison (13-14) who halted a four-game losing skid.
North Dakota State shot 51 percent (32 of 63) from the floor, while limiting Mayville State to 21-of-56 shooting (37.5 percent).
The Bison got off to a slow start before closing the first half on a 14-0 run to lead 39-26 at the break. The Comets never recovered as North Dakota State pushed its advantage to 76-51 following Samuelson's final trey with 6:41 left.
Gorg Alhaq had 11 points for Mayville State.
