UTSA gets 1st win of season, beats FGCU 76-65
ESTERO, Fla. -- Jhivvan Jackson made five 3-pointers and scored 21 points in just 15 minutes, Keaton Wallace added four 3s and 19 points and UTSA beat Florida Gulf Coast 76-65 on Wednesday in the Gulf Coast Showcase for its first victory of the season.
Jackson, who was the Conference USA freshman of the year last season, was limited to 15 minutes in each of UTSA's three tournament games after recently returning from an injury. He totaled 41 points over a combined 45 minutes, making 12 of 33 from the field.
UTSA trailed 36-34 at halftime but opened the second half on a 12-3 run for seven-point lead and shot 55 percent in the final 20 minutes.
Nick Allen chipped in with 13 points for UTSA (1-5), which was 10 of 22 from distance.
Christian Carlyle led FGCU (2-5) with 16 points. Schadrac Casimir and Haanif Cheatham each added 14 points.
