UC Irvine controls UC Riverside in commanding 79-40 win

IRVINE, Calif. -- Tommy Rutherford scored 15 points with 10 rebounds, Jonathan Galloway scored 10 points and tied a career-high with 14 rebounds and UC Irvine beat UC Riverside 79-40 on Wednesday night.

It's the third time in Galloway's career he's reached 14 rebounds and Rutherford's third career double-double. UC Irvine (9-14, 4-3 Big West) had a 55-30 rebounding edge.

The Anteaters made half of their 64 field-goal attempts while the Highlanders shot 14 of 57 (25 percent). Alex Larsson led UC Riverside (5-15, 0-6) with eight points and the Highlanders have lost eight straight.

Eyassu Worku's 3-pointer with 11:05 before intermission began a 26-7 run that gave the Anteaters a 39-19 lead at the break. Up 42-25 with 15:59 to play, UC Irvine used a 16-1 run over the next four minutes for a 32-point lead (58-26).

Worku scored 13 and Evan Leonard added 12 for the Anteaters.
