Sherburn's 21 helps UMBC celebrate 83-75 win
BALTIMORE -- Joe Sherburne had 21 points and 10 rebounds and three seniors had key contributions on Senior Day as UMBC defeated UMass Lowell 83-75 on Saturday to secure 20 wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time at the Division-I level.
Jairus Lyles had 16 points, six rebounds and six assists for the Terriers (20-9, 11-4 American East), who secured a top-three finish. K.J. Maura had 11 points and six assists. Jourdan Grant set the school record by appearing in his 123rd game and had nine points, six rebounds and four assists.
Sherburne's layup started a 13-0 run with less than seven minutes that gave UMBC, which went 12 of 24 on 3-pointers, a 77-68 lead with 3 1/2 minutes to go.
The River Hawks (11-17, 5-10) went about 5 1/2 minutes between baskets down the stretch. Jahad Thomas had 21 points and 12 rebounds and Rinardo Perry scored 19.
