Harris reaches 1,000 career points, UMass Lowell tops BU
LOWELL, Mass. -- Matt Harris scored 27 points and reached 1,000 career points, and UMass Lowell beat Boston University 87-82 on Wednesday night.
It was coach Pat Duquette's 50th career win.
UML made 10 straight free throws in the final minute to seal it. Max Mahoney sank a baseline jumper to pull BU within 81-77 and UML turned it over in the backcourt. Cedric Hankerson hit a corner 3-pointer to make it 81-80 but Harris made two free throws with 25.5 seconds left. Will Goff missed a corner 3-pointer for BU and Harris added two more free throws for a five-point lead.
Jahad Thomas had 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists, and Rinardo Perry added 16 points for UMass Lowell (6-5). Harris is the 41st River Hawk to reach 1,000 points.
Harris scored 13 points in the first half but UML trailed 34-31 at halftime.
Mahoney had a career-high 29 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks for BU (4-5). Hankerson added 20 points.
