Vermont wraps up 2nd straight America East crown
BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Drew Urquhart scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Ernie Duncan also had 18 points to lead Vermont to a 75-54 victory over Binghamton on Wednesday night and its second straight America East regular-season championship.
The Catamounts bounced back from their only conference loss of the season, 69-68 to Hartford on Sunday, to claim the outright title with their win over the Bearcats and UMBC's loss to Stony Brook. Vermont (23-6, 13-1) is three games ahead of the Retrievers and Hartford (both 10-2) with two games remaining.
Duncan had four 3-pointers and became the 37th player in Vermont history to reach 1,000 points. Payton Henson added 15 points and seven assists and Trae Bell-Haynes 12 points. Vermont shot 53 percent.
Fard Muhammad had 12 points, Caleb Stewart 10 and Thomas Bruce 13 rebounds to go with his nine points for the Bearcats (11-18, 2-12).
Vermont led 34-27 at halftime with a Duncan 3-pointer giving Vermont a 12-point lead with 14:30 left that remained in double figures.
