Smith hits last second jumper, Texas A&M-CC gets 69-68 win
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Myles Smith hit a jump shot as time expired to give Texas A&M-Corpus Christi a 69-68 victory over NAIA Our Lady of the Lake on Friday night.
Courtney Julien nailed a 3-pointer with :04 remaining to give the Saints a 68-67 lead. The Islanders called timeout and set up Smith's winning jumper.
Our Lady of the Lake led 29-28 at the break, but the Islanders took the second half 41-39 for the win.
The Saints made 21 field goals, hitting 10 of 36 from distance. A&M-CC was 22-of-61 from the floor but the Islanders were just 3 of 13 from beyond the arc, but made six more free throws than the Saints.
Kareem South led the Islanders with 16 points and Smith and Joseph Kilgore had 11 apiece with York Benjamin chipping in 10. Elijah Schmidt had 16 rebounds for the Islanders.
Julien led the Saints with 26 points.
