Parks, Frierson lead The Citadel over Oglethorpe 109-73
CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Preston Parks made five 3-pointers and scored 21 points to lead The Citadel over Division III Oglethorpe 109-73 on Friday in a season opener.
Matt Frierson added 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting behind the arc for the Bulldogs, which is one of five teams in the nation that doesn't have a senior on its roster. Freshman Tariq Simmons had 15 points, eight assists and four steals. Parks and Frierson made 11 of the Bulldogs' 21 3-pointers. The duo combined for 142 from beyond the arc last season.
Parks scored 11 points and Frierson made four 3-pointers in the first half as the Bulldogs built a 70-37 halftime lead. Oglethorpe had its last lead, 17-16 with 14:17 to play in the first half.
Will Perry scored 21 points on 9-of-19 shooting to lead the Stormy Petrels.
The Bulldogs lead the series 7-0, which dates back to 1926.
