Bryant, Childs lead BYU to 69-59 win over San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO -- Elijah Bryant had 17 points and Yoeli Childs scored nine of his 13 in the final 10 minutes to help BYU pull away late for a 69-59 win over San Francisco on Thursday night.
Childs made 6 of 9 from the field with eight rebounds and Bryant added seven rebounds. Jashire Hardnett scored 11 points on 4-of-4 shooting for BYU (13-3, 2-1 West Coast Conference).
The Cougars led by as many as 13 points in the first half and took a 33-26 lead into the break. San Francisco (9-7, 1-2) chipped away throughout the second half, tying the score twice before taking its first lead when Matt McCarthy and Jordan Ratinho hit back-to-back 3-pointers to make it about 8 1/2 minutes to go. Childs answered with a dunk and, after Souley Boum's layup gave the Dons a 55-53 lead, made a free throw before Bryant hit a 3-pointer and a jumper to give BYU a four-point lead. USF missed 8 of 9 from the field in the last seven-plus minutes as the Cougars pulled away.
McCarthy led the Dons with 16 points and Chase Foster scored 14.
