Vinícius Júnior struck a first-half winner as Real Madrid secured a 1-0 LaLiga victory over Sevilla in their final away fixture of a turbulent season.

Real travelled south to Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan amid intense pressure on club president Florentino Perez and with reports indicating Jose Mourinho is poised to return as manager in the summer.

Brazil forward Vinícius claimed his 22nd goal of the campaign in the 15th minute to earn Madrid a second successive win since defeat in last weekend's Clasico saw rivals Barcelona retain the league title.

Kylian Mbappé made his first start in almost a month as part of seven Madrid changes having been booed by his own fans during a substitute appearance in Thursday's 2-0 home victory over Real Oviedo.

Sevilla raced out of the blocks and dominated the early exchanges, only to fall behind.

Brahim Diaz's ball forward was chested down by Mbappe and, from just inside the hosts' 18-yard box, Vinicius calmly slotted into the bottom-right corner.

With around half an hour played, referee Jose Maria Sanchez Martinez briefly stopped the game to speak with both captains following an incident involving Vinicius and the home fans.

Sevilla had eased relegation fears with four wins from their previous six matches.

Having failed to capitalise on a host of promising first-half attacks, Luis Garcia's side almost fell further behind when Aurelien Tchouameni's effort was blocked behind for a corner.

Substitute Franco Mastantuono curled against the base of a post in the 73rd minute as Alvaro Arbeloa's men sought to wrap up the three points.

Mbappe then had a goal disallowed for offside after rounding Sevilla goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos.

Sevilla created little in the closing stages but visiting keeper Thibaut Courtois still had to be alert to keep out a powerful added-time effort from Salas as Real hung on for a victory thanks to their only attempt on target.

Despite their three-match winning run coming to an end, Sevilla's safety was secured due to the fact 18th-placed Girona play 17th-placed Elche on the final day of the season next weekend.

Real will complete the campaign at home to Athletic Bilbao in what is expected to Arbeloa's final match as manager ahead of the potential return of Mourinho.
