Oxford Utd v Norwich City
Mohamed Toure scores hat trick in stunning starting debut for Norwich
Socceroos striker Mohamed Toure has made a remarkable starting debut for Norwich City, scoring a hat trick as the Canaries hammered Oxford United 3-0 in the Championship.
Toure made a €3 million move to England in January from Danish top-flight club Randers FC and it's already looking like a great decision for Norwich, Australia and the 21-year-old forward.
He has now scored four times in two games for the Canaries after getting the second goal in a 2-0 win over Blackburn Rovers last weekend, having come on as a substitute.
That performance earned Toure a promotion to Philippe Clement's starting XI for the away clash against relegation-threatened Oxford on Tuesday and he didn't let his new coach down.
Toure opened the scoring with his first touch in the opening minute before hitting the scoresheet again in the 19th and 47th minutes as Norwich moved up to 16th on the Championship table.
The Guinea-born forward is near certain to be a member of Tony Popovic's Socceroos squad for the FIFA World Cup in North America starting in June. And if he keeps up this sort of form, Toure is making a compelling case to lead the line for Australia at the tournament.
He has netted two goals in eight internationals.
When Toure joined Norwich, they faced the real prospect of relegation to the third tier of English football. But the back-to-back Toure-inspired victories over Blackburn and Oxford have lifted the Canaries to 16th spot, seven points clear of the drop zone.
Oxford are mired in second-last place.
