Marco Borriello scored four times as Cagliari cruised to a 5-1 win over Serie B side Spal in the Coppa Italia third round on Monday.
Cagliari's marquee new signing shone in his first competitive game for his new club, scoring twice in the first half and providing an assist on Marco Sau's goal as the promoted club were in full control.
He completed his hat trick in the 65th minute before adding a fourth goal in the 82nd, before Mirko Antenucci got a consolation goal back for Spal.
Cagliari will face Sampdoria in the next round in November, with the winners to face Roma in the round of 16.
