Bordeaux defeat Lorient to reach Coupe de la Ligue semifinals

Bordeaux are hoping to win the Coupe de la Ligue for the first time since 2009.

Bordeaux reached the semifinals of the Coupe de la Ligue with a 2-0 victory against Lorient on Tuesday.

The goals came either side of half-time courtesy of midfielder Jaroslav Plasil's deflected shot from the edge of the penalty area in the 44th minute and Florent Chaigneau's own goal.

Lorient defender Pape Abdou Paye failed to clear a corner and goalkeeper Chaigneau pushed the ball into his own with 56 minutes on the clock.

At the other end, Bordeaux keeper Cedric Carrasso preserved his side's advantage with some fine saves, most notably repelling an effort from substitute Benjamin Jeannot with his legs.

Bordeaux have won the cup three times, the last in 2009.

In Wednesday's quarterfinals, defending champions Paris Saint-Germain host Lyon, Guingamp play Lille, and Toulouse face Marseille.
