Commentary
The referee makes his way over to the touchline to caution a member of the Hull coaching staff, with frustrations continuing to boil over following that breakaway challenge which the visitors felt should've resulted in at least a free-kick.
Arsenal have a free-kick on the far side that Rice looks to swing into the box, but the delivery is well below his usual standards and Hull are able to clear their lines before breaking quickly. Odegaard, not renowned for his pace, is the deepest player in red and white, and has to make a crucial challenge on Cho. The referee deems it a fair one, too. Had he judged otherwise, the Arsenal captain could well have found himself in serious danger of being penalised for denying a goalscoring opportunity.
SAVED! Hull look to ask plenty of questions of the Arsenal defence, and Raya is called into action with a smart stop. McBurnie slips Stroud in down the left side of the area, and from a tight angle he drills a low effort across goal that the Arsenal goalkeeper can only parry away. Iroegbunam is first to react to the loose ball, but Rice produces a desperate challenge to do just enough and put the Hull midfielder off as the chance goes begging.
Stroud launches a long throw into the Arsenal box, but the hosts deal with it easily and quickly look to spring forward on the counter. Tzolis leads the charge, though he hesitates with Havertz making a run beyond him, and by the time the pass arrives the German has strayed offside. The Gunners always seem to look a touch short of any real ruthlessness in transition, and that's rarely how they punish opponents.
Arteta's side continue to impose themselves in front of their home support, and when Odegaard looks to float a diagonal pass out towards Tzolis on the left, the move ultimately comes to nothing as Hull goalkeeper Tzolakis comes off his line to claim comfortably.
Havertz is slipped into the box by Timber, and as he tries to burst beyond Mendy, the German international goes to ground under pressure. The Hull defender is quick to let him know what he thinks of the appeal, and the referee is unmoved. There looked to be little in it, but you're always taking a chance when you make contact with an attacker inside the penalty area.
