Coastal Carolina Chanticleers @ Florida State Seminoles

Florida State edges Coastal Carolina in suspended game
Cal Fisher hit a go-ahead solo home run in the fifth inning to lead Florida State to a 2-1 victory over Coastal Carolina in an NCAA regional elimination game that was resumed Sunday at Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida, after being suspended Saturday.
The game, which was suspended after the fifth, saw Florida State rally after falling behind 1-0 early. Fisher's decisive blast was part of a 2-for-3 performance that also included a double. Nathan Cmeyla drove in the Seminoles' first run with an RBI double in the fourth inning. Hunter Carns went 2-for-3 and scored the tying run to also contribute for FSU.
Florida State's pitching was stellar both before and after the suspension, allowing three hits in total. Starter Wes Mendes was dominant through four innings, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out eight. After the weather suspension, reliever Trey Beard shut out the Chanticleers over the final four innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out nine.
Coastal Carolina took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when Trace Mazon delivered an RBI single that scored Walker Mitchell. Mazon went 2-for-3, while Dean Mihos went 1-for-3 for the Chanticleers.
Chanticleers starter Cameron Flukey pitched 3⅓ scoreless innings, giving up two hits and striking out three before his day was cut short by an initial weather delay. After play resumed, Darin Horn surrendered two earned runs on three hits, including Fisher's home run, over 1⅔ innings, before another weather delay suspended the game.
Up next: Florida State will play in another elimination game later Sunday.
