Commentary
The full-time whistle blows at the Estadio Do Dragao and PSV Eindhoven return home with three vital points, having defeated Porto 1-0, courtesy of Guus Til’s second-half strike. The visitors started brightly and dominated much of the first half, though a lack of composure in front of goal appeared to haunt them. Mauro Junior fired over twice, while Kostic saw a sharp effort denied by the post in the dying minutes of the first half. Porto emerged from the break more energized, but their dominance was short-lived. Bajraktarevic saw a sweetly-hit volley crash into the post before Til edged the visitors in front moments later, getting on the end of Mijnans’ timely shot to poke into an empty net from close range. Porto produced a fine fightback from there, twice going close as Hwang saw a point-blank effort inexplicably saved by Kovar before Froholdt’s follow-up was cleared off the line by Geertruida. The Dragons threatened again through Rosario, who should have done better after lifting Diogo Costa’s pinpoint long ball over Kovar. In the end, it was PSV who held on to secure their first Champions League win of the season. There was little to separate the two sides in terms of their chance creation, with Porto’s 1.40 xG marginally bettered by PSV’s 1.63 xG. As such, the Dutch outfit move up to 16th in the table, while the Dragons remain in 33rd place, now without a win across their last four Champions League matches. Porto next take on Gil Vicente in the league this weekend before bracing to host Napoli in their next Champions League encounter. PSV, meanwhile, host Feyenoord ahead of their next Champions League clash against Club Brugge. That’s all from us tonight, thank you for joining this live commentary. We hope you’ve enjoyed it!
FULL-TIME: PORTO 0-1 PSV EINDHOVEN
Two in quick succession! Porto are not giving up here as Hwang sees a low shot from the edge of the area blocked by Geertruida, before Alberto Costa's bouncing effort is saved by Kovar. That should be that!
CLOSE! We're seeing an end-to-end finish here as PSV continue to look for their insurance goal. Mijnans is the player on this ocassion, his blazing shot flying high towards the top corner before rising just enough to escape the crossbar.
FLASHED WIDE!! Pepe very nearly draws Porto level! After a neat one-two with Borja Sainz inside the box, the Porto winger drives at a shot from a tight angle, sending his low effort whizzing past the face of goal and very nearly in. Kovar had no clue about that!
The fourth official announces that we'll have a minimum of five minutes of stoppage time at the end of the match.
