Ionescu: Getting to 1,000 rebounds was for Kobe

Sabrina Ionescu says getting to 1,000 rebounds was for Kobe Bryant and to be able to do it on 2/24 is special.

Ionescu said it was special to be able to reach the milestone on 2/24 -- Gianna Bryant wore No. 2, and Kobe Bryant wore No. 24 for the second half of his career.

"That one was for him," Ionescu said. "To do it on 2/24/20 is huge."

And in the fourth quarter, Ionescu also secured her 26th triple-double as Oregon clinched the Pac-12 regular-season title with a 74-66 victory over Stanford. Ionescu finished with 21 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists.

Through Feb. 28, Ionescu currently sits at 2,479 points, 1,008 rebounds and 1,053 assists.

Ionescu speaks at memorial for Kobe, Gigi Bryant

Kobe Bryant was deeply invested in women's basketball. A trio of the game's greatest were among the speakers at Monday's memorial for Kobe and Gigi.

Ionescu, who considered Kobe Bryant a mentor and friend and had helped coached Gigi's basketball team on occasion, spoke in between UConn legend Diana Taurasi and Huskies coach Geno Auriemma.

"If I represented the present of the women's game, Gigi was the future. And Kobe knew it," Ionescu said.
