Lisa Alexander has turned the blowtorch onto her midcourt in naming a 23-strong group of Australian netball triallists to attend a pre-World Cup camp.
The 18 contracted Diamonds will be joined by five invited players in Canberra next week, including former Test centre Paige Hadley.
The inclusion of Hadley and proven Sunshine Coast performer Laura Scherian means 10 midcourters will come under Alexander's gaze.
It follows a mixed display at the Quad Series in January, which was won by Australia on goal differential but ended on a low note when losing to the hosts England - their biggest rivals going into July's World Cup in Liverpool.
Alexander said none of her Quad Series players could rest easily and has opened up her options, particularly with the inclusion of 26-year-old Swifts livewire Hadley, a member of her 2015 World Cup-winning squad.
The other invited players are uncapped.
Scherian, 30, is joined by defenders Kim Jenner (Queensland Firebirds) and Matilda Garrett (Magpies Netball), along with shooter Cara Koenen (Lightning).
Young gun Garrett was part of the Magpies team who won the pre-season tournament in Brisbane last week.
Alexander said the camp and the opening month of Super Netball matches will help her finalise a World Cup squad to be announced in late May.
"We're constantly monitoring the athletes within our pathway program, so selection of these athletes as camp invitees has been based on much more than just their brilliant performances at the pre-season tournament over the weekend," Alexander said.
