EUGENE, Ore. Dan Muscatell, an assistant women's
basketball coach at the University of Oregon, has been named
interim head coach, athletics director Bill Moos said Wednesday.
Head coach Jody Runge resigned Monday after eight seasons. The
Ducks finished 17-12 last season, advancing to the NCAA Tournament
for the eighth straight year.
Muscatell served as the Ducks' recruiting coordinator and helped
sign the six incoming freshmen to letters of intent for the 2001-02
season.
"I felt it was important at this time to have some leadership
in position as we work with current players and continue
communication with incoming recruits," Moos said.
Moos added that his previous announcement to begin a national
search for a permanent replacement remained unchanged.
"It's really important for people to understand it's a
temporary position," Muscatell said. "It does not change the
function of our staff members. We're going to continue to work
together to move the program in a positive direction."
Muscatell was the boys basketball coach at Rochester High School
in Washington from 1994-99. Send this story to a friend | Most sent stories
