South East Melbourne Phoenix centre Dane Pineau has put pen to paper on a contract extension that will see him stay at the club for the next three seasons.

Announcing the news in a team statement, the 25-year-old big man said he "loved his first year" at the Phoenix so much he wanted to commit long-term.

"I'm really excited. I loved my first year so much that I just wanted to stay as long as I could, so as soon as they offered me a chance to extend my contract I jumped at it," Pineau said.

"I love all the boys and the coaches have really looked after me and have a lot of faith in me, so hopefully over the next three years I can prove them right and keep working hard and get a lot better.

"It's exciting to be part of a new club where everything is brand new. Hopefully in four years' time we'll really establish ourselves in the competition and if I get to be a part of that it'd be amazing."

Pineau, a former St. Mary's product, earned a nomination for 'most improved' NBL player last season, and enjoyed career-best numbers for the men in green, following a previous stint at the Sydney Kings.

In the 2019-20 season, he averaged 8.1 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game, during which he shot at 66 percent from the field.
