Australian forward Xavier Cooks has re-signed with the Sydney Kings for the 2020-21 NBL season, sources have told ESPN.
Cooks, 24, was among the six players who opted out of their respective contracts after the league announced a series of salary-cutting measures but managed to agree to a new deal that would see him return to Sydney.
The deal is for one year, sources said, with the Australian Boomers talent turning down lucrative offers from Spain and Turkey in order to remain on Will Weaver's team.
Cooks joined the Kings mid-way through the 2019-20 season, bolstering the team's frontcourt and helping them to a Grand Final appearance. Over 20 contests, the Wollongong-native averaged 6.7 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game.
The re-signing will put the Kings' roster at six heading into NBL Free Agency - set to begin on July 15 - with Cooks joining Brad Newley, Shaun Bruce, Craig Moller, Jordan Hunter, and Didi Louzada; though it's still not determined whether Louzada will play in Sydney for the upcoming season.
