Wildcats stars shake off injury concerns

If Cairns thought they were catching the Perth Wildcats at a good time they better think again.

Alarm bells were ringing for Wildcats fans last week when star imports Terrico White and Bryce Cotton missed the final-round win over Adelaide with knee issues.

White's knee injury was considered the more serious of the pair, with the bruising from a heavy knock taking time to settle.

But Wildcats coach Trevor Gleeson was breathing a big sigh of relief this week after watching the duo complete full training duties.

Not only were they training, they were jumping out of their skins.

"They're jumping out like they're teenagers - up and down - so that's been great for us," Gleeson said ahead of the semi-finals series against Cairns which starts in Perth next Friday.

"Now we're going to fine tune some stuff that we're doing."

Cotton won his second league MVP award last week after producing another outstanding campaign while White was named the grand final MVP last season.

The duo are set to play a key role in Perth's hopes for back-to-back Championships.

Gleeson said the fact his side were able to beat Adelaide without both White and Cotton was a good sign of their depth.

The Wildcats expect Cotton to be particularly targeted during the finals and Gleeson is confident the American will rise to the occasion.

"The last year if you look at the finals - Melbourne were trapping him and he finished up with an average of eight assists," Gleeson said.

"That's why he's a special player. He's not just one-pronged and has to score.

"He can rebound, he can defend, he can get assists. That's the pleasure of having him out there."

Cairns are one of the few teams to be able to claim they have the wood over the Wildcats.

The Taipans won two of the three meetings between the sides this season, but they are yet to face new Wildcats import Miles Plumlee.

The former NBA centre has fitted in seamlessly into the Wildcats' set-up and his battle against Nathan Jawai will be critical to the result of the best-of-three semi-final series.
