Dante Exum has signed a three-month deal with European basketball heavyweights Barcelona.

The Boomers bronze medallist, fifth in the 2014 NBA draft, looked set to add to his 245 games after signing with the Houston Rockets on the back of his encouraging Tokyo campaign.

But the former Utah Jazz and Cleveland Cavaliers talent was waived and the free agent has only now secured a home until late February as cover for the injury-hit club.

Exum, still only 26, played a key role in securing the Boomers' maiden Olympic medal and is regarded as a genuine NBA talent only held back by a host of injuries.

He is set to become the fourth Australian after David Anderson, Nate Jawai and Joe Ingles to play for the Spanish powerhouse.
